Apparently that's what one wears to a night club nowadays. Maybe it's just me, but Christina Aguilera makes me long for the days the party scene looked like this:

Hollywood glory days from lolitasclassics.blogspot.com

I should have been born in the days of cocktail hour and when cutting edge design was conceived at the Bauhaus.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
You are a girl after my own heart! I just love the old Hollywood pics you post! My Mom grew up in the 40's and was in love with Clark Gable.
ReplyDeleteI wish the 40's style would come back again! Shoulder pads in a suite make your waist look tiny.
You have to see the movie Dinner at Eight!
I have siren red polish on right now and have a sudden craving for a frosty glass of Champagne. Jeeves! Get me my coat! We're going out!

I'm told all the time by my family that I was born in the wrong time. I'm pretty sure I should have been around in the 40's & 50's. I can't relate to the current styles AT ALL. I'd blame it on being in my 40's but I've always been like this. Oh well, maybe in my past life, I WAS that chic lady dressing to the nines, dabbing on the Shalimar from my crystal flacon & dashing out to cocktails and a show. Strange to pine for something you never knew.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I do think there's a difference between clubbing and cocktail parties. You can still dress like that to a normal "party", but as clubbing translates to trance to me I wouldn't feel comfortable dancing in those outfits.
ReplyDelete<3 40s style though.

Yes, I don't agree what passes for appropriate party wear now but what Christina is wearing is more clothing than what I have noticed being photographed. Maybe I'm desensitized based on Lady Gaga's refusal of wearing pants in public.
ReplyDeleteOh Barcelona Chair - i love your commentary. My husband and I want to name our dog, Gropius. If we ever get one of course.
