There were some impressive lashes on display at Nylon Magazine 12th Anniversary Issue Party. The blondes, Brittany Snow and Nicky Hilton, kept the balance with nude pink lips, while Vanessa Hudgens opted for berry lips that go perfectly well with her coloring (yes, I'm a bit biased here).
Speaking of Nicky Hilton, she and Abbie Cornish wore dresses with some extreme shoulder pads. I don't know, maybe it's because I've been there before or perhaps it's my aversion to body-distorting silhouettes, but I can't help thinking one day they'd look back at the photos and cringe. How about you? How do you feel about supersized shoulders?

ReplyDeleteHilton's shoulder pads look like she's got those Lady GaGa appendages attached to her shoulder under that dress. Too sharp, pointy and triangular. I do like the shoulder pads in the black dress because they balance out the hips. I think it's time to redo shoulder pads with a fresh approach though, not the old dynasty shoulder pads we wore in the 80's.
ReplyDeletelove shoulder pads as on the first dress (and some vintage pads in my vintage pieces from the '80s), but i don't care much for hilton's costumey shoulders - those aren't just pads, they go way beyond. and they unfortunately make her boobs appear to hang low.

There is that saying that if you wore it the first time around, you're too old to do it again - so that rules out shoulder pads pour moi! However, as much as I love Abbie Cornish, and she - bless her - is too young to have experienced the 80s shoulder pad thing - she is too short-necked and broad-shouldered to carry it off. I know. I have the same problem.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on tailoring and proportions. For a while there (i.e in the 80s) they put shoulder pads in EVERYTHING, whether they were needed or not. However, when appropriate they can add a nice structure to a jacket or dress. They look fine in the black dress, but they're unnecessary in Nicky Hilton's dress. And she's so scary-skinny, they just look like extra bones poking out of her shoulders.
