Marion Cotillard In NYC

Marion Cotillard attended "The Dark Knight Rises" New York premiere the other night wearing a Dior couture dress and lots of orange eye shadow. It's true that orange (as well as peach, gold, bronze and the like) is great for accentuating blue eyes and making them stand out beautifully. But I think something went wrong with Marion's makeup look. Maybe it's too much orange and too little anything else that could have created more depth and balance. It can also be a blending issue: the orange eye shadow looks like it was just slapped and packed around Marion's eyes. I'm also not crazy about the amount of orange used under her lower lashes. In any case, Marion Cotillard deserves much better.

What say you?

  1. definitely could've been better. or at least more fun! i'd like to see a '70s turquoise eye liner with that orange. fortunately, she is pretty enough to withstand the orange crush.

    cheers,

  2. It kind of does make her look a bit sickly. maybe copper would work better. I generally dislike orange so I'm biased. :)

  3. Gosh - that does look horrible on her - it truly detracts. Some sort of burgundy, or deep berry, and not plastered all over as this orange was, would have been so much more attractive. A shame.

  4. I agree. Once I went to a makeover event at a local department store and this darling little man who sold cosmetics decided that he wanted to put orange on me, as well. It was the MAC line and he wore plenty of it himself. He was talented, but the orange, even though I am blue-eyed with a very blonde skin, was just circus material. I have never forgotten that session, and of course did not buy that shade of shadow. But he did teach me that bronze and opposite colours do make blue eyes pop, and I have also never forgotten that. I started wearing things that otherwise I would have passed up. Of course, I am no match for Marion Cotillard, but I think orange would not suit too many people!

  6. ITA with Anon 3:54. The shadow makes her look soooo tired. Everything else is fab (as usual), though, especially her brows. Gorgeous!

  7. I think M Cotillard is so beautiful. I love the rest of her makeup, but that orange shadow is just too jarring and distracting. I don't think it's *bad* on her --- she can pull anything off -- it's just silly. She doesn't need a gimmick like that.

  8. One of the first things you learn schlepping talent around to premieres and other paparazzi-ful events (and I did 20 years of it) is to take a photo and see what everything's gonna look like before s/he goes out the door. There's a pretty good chance that in person, the shadow didn't pop so unpleasantly, it might've appeared blended better and probably didn't overwhelm that washed-out lipcolor. But in still, flat photos, it looks awful. She's a really lovely woman but she needs to get smarter about the stylists, publicists and others around her.

  9. You're right: depth and balance are lacking, and, although it does bring out her eye color, it doesn't go well with her skin and lip color and the naturalism of the rest of her look. ~~nozknoz

  10. I learned in the late 60s that golden-bronze eyeshadow really accentuates blue eyes. I think M. Cotillard might be a "cool" rather than "warm". If so, maybe a cool-based bronze would have worked better. She is so lovely, and one of my favorite actors.
