January Jones was probably the bigger risk taker last night at the 19th SAG Awards. The massive bouffant, sandy makeup and orange lipstick are... interesting. I can't say I'm a huge fan, but January Jones was never one to go the pretty blonde way and I do appreciate that. There's some serious contouring going on on her cheek and an obvious use of a beige pencil on her waterline (NARS Rue Bonaparte, most likely).
I see the logic behind the ultra-dry matte red lipstick trend on the red carpet, as it's extremely long lasting and doesn't require touch-ups and constant mirror checks, but the truth is that it's just not flattering. The worst cases were the otherwise gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence and Claire Danes (click on the photos to see what I'm talking about).
Then there were the usual combinations of dark lips-light eyes (Jessica Chastain) and the opposite: dramatic eyes and pale lips (Jessica Pare). A smoky eye and natural lipstick was seen on Kerry Washington, though in Kerry's case I prefer the darker version she wore over the weekend for the Producers Guild Award:

Michelle Dockery never fails; I usually can say that about Marion Cotillard too, but this time her hair looks awful!
ReplyDeleteI actually love January Jones' orange lip, a nice twist on the classic red. Claire Danes' biggest problem is that she just isn't that cute. Michelle Dockery and Jessica Chastain are lovely, and I love Marion Cotillard but I don't love that lipstick on her.

ReplyDeleteI saw Jennifer Lawrence's makeup this morning and was SO disappointed. WHY would anyone want fading, dry lipstick as a red carpet look. UGH.
Claire Danes doesn't have to be "cute" - she's brilliant and a wonderful actress. Her lipstick was too dark for her coloring.

Kerry Washington is so beautiful - she's always looking good. Jessica Chastain can do no wrong...except for the ill-fitting gown for the Golden Globes, which was so out of character for her! Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard are both favorites of mine...I get very tired of blondes!
Kaley Cuoco's hair looked like a wig.. and a bad one at that. Her expression in that picture almost looks like "Yes, I know.. shut up."
