Trend Alert: Black Leather Dresses

I find it quite interesting that the three stars who sported black leather dresses over the last few days weren't necessarily the obvious choice for this kind of look, nor are they spring chickens. First was Sandra Bullock in a super sexy Ermanno Scervino black leather dress with lace cut-outs. The very same night we saw Heather Graham wearing  a leather Kymerah Sora bustier dress, which is probably my least favorite in the bunch. There's something far too obvious about the shape and cut, and it's not really age appropriate. I much preferred the red leather dress Heather wore last month for The Hangover Part III premiere in Rio de Janeiro:

Last was Naomi Watts in Alexander McQueen. The interesting neckline and the McQueen-ness of the look make Naomi really stand out. She's utterly lovely (Liev isn't bad, either), but not even her stylish look will convince me that wearing black leather in the summer is a good idea.

  1. I agree about black leather in the summer--I'm sweating just thinking about it. I thing Sandra Bullocks look like a lumpy mess (the cut of the dress), Heather Graham looks cute in both, and Naomi Watts--meh, her usual style.

  2. leather is actually more comfortable than you might think. I have a black leather evening gown - classic styling (v neck in front, deep vee in back) - it's lined in silk, so it's breathable. I've worn it to several 'crush' functions in the dead of summer, without undue discomfort. In fact, it's more comfortable than many of my fabric alternatives!
