The coming abdication of King Juan Carlos of Spain is putting more focus on Princess Letizia who will become queen. Princess Letizia and her husband, the heir to the throne Prince Felipe, have just celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. The Princess had an established journalism career before meeting the Prince. She was a commoner (unlike her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia, who was Princess of Greece and Denmark until her marriage), and a divorcee, a fact that some conservative people in Catholic Spain found hard to swallow, at least at first.
Like all modern princesses, Princess Letizia is known for her charity work and official duties in Spain and abroad as much as for her sense of style. Her main focus in her public role is support for victims of rare diseases and cooperation with the World Health Organization on nutrition issues.
