Yves Saint Laurent 1936-2008

Some Yves Saint Laurent quotes:

"I participated in the transformation of my era. I did it with clothes, which is surely less important than music, architecture, painting ... but whatever it's worth I did it." (2002)

"I always believed that style was more important than fashion. They are rare, those who imposed their style while fashion makers are so numerous." (1993)

"The most beautiful clothes that can dress a woman are the arms of the man she loves. But for those who haven't had the fortune of finding this happiness, I am there." (1983)

"I tried to show that fashion is an art. For that, I followed the counsel of my master Christian Dior and the imperishable lesson of Mademoiselle Chanel. I created for my era and I tried to foresee what tomorrow would be." (1983)

The world is a little less stylish today.

  1. I remember back in the day when everyones Mom was into that "rich Gypsy" look; it was the total bomb. And Opium? The shockingly named fragrance that houses are still referring to. I may go get a bottle of Kouros just for the heck of it...

  2. The maestro has put the baguette to sleep for good...
I, for one, will never forget his orchestrations: they were the most beautiful music I have ever heard.

  3. I loved his work, and he was such a sweet man, if a bit neurotic(okay, a lot neurotic, but still...) I will miss him and it really is the end of an era.

  4. I just love that second picture with Betty Catroux and Loulou de la Falaise, his two muses. Aren't they just the epitome of Le chic Sixties?

  6. Helg- He was one of the greatest. With him gone we're left in a Marc Jacobs world. Scary thought.

  10. Grayburn- YSL has managed to make pant suits look very sexy, and I'm a dress kinda gal.
