The Future Queen Of England?

Kate Middleton couldn't be lovelier or livelier. The engagement rumors are becoming more persistent, and the nerdy royal watcher that I am can't wait (and I can't even explain why. at least not in rational terms).
Are any of you royalists in disguise? Do you remember watching Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981?

  1. I did! I was 10 years old and got the day off school, spent the day at my older sister's house watching it on an ancient telly then went home to find a street party going on. Those were the days...

Kate Middleton is indeed lovely and would make a Queen just as beautiful as our present Queen. I hope she also has the same sense of duty.

  2. Anglophile that I am, not only did I watch the royal wedding, but I threw a big bash in its honor. Eveyone had to wear a hat--including the men. I've never seen so many top hats in my life. And the women, of course, wore some really incredible creations. Good memories. :-)

  3. Sorry, but she looks awfully washed out & a bit boring. Then again, I have no interest in the royal family.

  4. I think she's lovely! But...will she be Queen? Would she not be the female equivalent of Prince Philip - or is there a title like Queen Consort?

    Just askin'..

  5. I remember Charles and Diana wedding, I was 16 or 17 at the time, in school vacation, so I was able to watch it on the Spanish TV. I remember her dress, that I found awful and how young she looked.

  6. The present situation with the Duchess of Cornwall has muddied the waters a bit but as far as I can tell if Kate is married to Prince William when he becomes King she will be Queen, no complications.

  7. Queens are queens, whether reigning in their own right or as spouses of the king.

Only in irregular situations like Prince Charles and his wife is the title not used.

For men married to queens regnant, the situation is a lot more complicated due to history.

  8. I was glued to the TV set for Charles & Diana's wedding. My husband (at the time) was British and so it held even more importance in our home. I think Kate will make a perfect royal. Can't wait to watch this wedding!

  9. Yup, I got up at an ungodly hour of the morning (I lived in NYC at the time) to watch Charles & Diana's wedding. I always had a crush on Charles, and remember watching his investiture as Prince of Wales (OK, now I'm dating myself). Haven't paid much attention to royals since, except to follow the foibles of Grace Kelly's kids in Monaco. Probably disillusioned by the sad way the Charles & Di story turned out.

  10. I do remember- I had to get up at something like 3 or 4 am to do so!

  11. I remember getting up and watching it on TV and watching every glimpse of a repeat I could! I got married the following summer and all the wedding dresses on the market were knock-offs of Diana's dress.
Kate would be a lovely addition to the royal family, but it makes me sad to think that Diana will never meet her or see her sons get married.
