Narciso Rodriguez Essence

I never reviewed the original Narciso Rodriguez For Her because I can't smell most of it, and the parts I get don't agree with me.  So it's a good thing I had very few expectations from the 2009 release, Essence. I can smell it alright and I don't mind its existence, even though I don't understand why anyone bothered to make it. Did the world really need another airy and sheer abstract floral over a whatever musk base?

The official notes according to NST are iris, rose, benzoin, amber and musk, but they might as well have been soap, laundry detergent, soda water, assorted chemicals and a very generic clean musk. If this Narciso Rodriguez creation's main purpose is to smell sterile and non offensive, then I guess it's a roaring success. It's fully lacking in emotional depth (or any depth, really) and will not make one feel anything, good or bad. Those of us who wear perfume for reasons other than to convince others that we shower on a regular basis, can easily skip this and find their essence elsewhere.

Narciso Rodriguez Essence ($80, 1.6 oz) is available from Sephora and most department stores.

  1. This was exactly what I thought about Essence, a follow-up even duller fragrance than the 1st. The original EDT wasn't to my liking either, something seemed to be
missing and it wears strangely on me. However, at least I feel it is trying and it has a bit of skank to make it more interesting than Essence. Barely more interesting :)

  2. It's a pleasing bottle to hold, but I always got a weird, inorganic, biting metal note when I tried it in the past.

I had a small sample of it in the body lotion and it was unwearable to me.

  3. I don't like his perfumes. :-( Just too boring for me.

  4. Narciso 'for her' eau de toilette is my absolute favorite perfume ever, I love love love it and am always stopped by people asking me what it is. That being said, I had high hopes for 'Essence' and was VERY disappointed. I didn't like it at all, it smelled sour and not the least bit appealing. But to each their own! ; )

  6. I made the mistake of trying to smell this in the cloud of perfume that is Sephora. It was really hard to detect and what I could smell was mostly the rose. It wasn't unpleasant though. Thanks for the review!
