I Need A Drink

Actually, I don't drink. But it feels like this could be a good time to start. My laptop had a difficult weekend and is now officially pronounced dead. I have a freshly-made backup and we're a multi-computer family, so I'm just kvetching, not in full-blown tantrum. Still, accessing a specific file is not going to be simple, neither am I going to do a full system restore before my spiffy new computer arrives in a couple of weeks.

We are not amused.

Now, this isn't the time for cuddly "there, there" comfort scents. No vanilla, powder or soft fuzzy musks. I need the olfactory equivalent of a stiff drink, chocolate and a good laugh. Etat Libre d'Orange should really come up with something like that. I spent the weekend mostly wearing By Kilian Incense Oud (and cursing), a gorgeous perfume (review coming in a couple of days) but it didn't hit the spot. Neither does Chanel No. 5, despite its stiff upper lip. I'm thinking Miss Dior (vintage perfume) for tomorrow, or maybe Cabochard, Bandit or Sous le Vent.

What do you wear when you need a drink?

  1. My favorite scent at the moment is Tom Ford's White Patchouli. Even though I love my Balenciaga, Prada Infusion d'Orange, Bvlgari Amethyste, I hoard the White Patchouli! (I don't drink either!)

  2. That would be Diptyque´s Tam Dao for me.

  3. I salute your not drinking..I am searching for the same....My downward perfume spiral today after finalizing a LTR split..starting in the AM-straight no chaser- Dior Addict followed by a afternoon of "(p)kick me up" of Dune, then smoking some Habanita for the evening..and yes..oh yes..I am sleeping with Angel..dabbed (I NEVER WEAR THIS!) Once you hit the Angel it is way past time for Betty Ford.

  4. I think I'd consider Rochas Femme or Bulgari Black.

  5. A big luscious Oriental or my old standby, Bal a Versailles (vintage). Which is actually a big, luscious Oriental. Followed by a cocktail.

  6. Oh, and I forgot to say: few things are more maddening that computer problems...my sympathies!

  7. I enjoy a good drink once in awhile, but I never associate drinking and perfume!

Still, you have my sympathy. Computer problems are indeed vexing. A short holiday away from the computer, or imagining it going out through the window, often helps.

  8. I don't know, but I will subscribe to comments because I need one myself due to work issues and pet health issues as well.

I cannot even resort to Chanel #5 - it's such a furry purry kitten on me, or is it its new version?

  9. Femme Rochas, which is so boozy it's like wearing a drink.

  10. I second everyone's vote for big (fl)orientals. For me it would be either Femme by Rochas or Casmir by Chopard (the older versions, of course). My computer is on its last legs so I'll definitely be feeling your pain pretty soon.

  11. My "take no prisoners" scent is Jicky EDP. Alice B. Toklas wore it, and she was well known for not suffering fools gladly. She was also known for wearing Balmain's Vent Vert, which is a rather lush white and green floral (to me.)

One of my (few) friends who knows "upper bracket" scents said to me the first time I wore Jicky around her "Gee, you smell like a French-American lesbian." From her, it is a high compliment.

  12. I used to occasionally enjoy a bourbon neat, but no longer.
The scent I would wear would be either M/Mink or Bandit. Both are edgy in a different way.....

  13. My favorite scent on a hot summer day is Bond No. 9 Little Italy... smells like a cool orange creamsicle!

  14. Bandit, easily. I just found out that one of my oldest friends has done one of those truly unforgivable things, if there is such a thing, and today is a Bandit day all the way.
