Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)

Amy Winehouse quotes:
"I don't think your ability to fight has anything to do with how big you are. It's to do with how much anger is in you."
"Girls talk to each other like men talk to each other. But girls have an eye for detail."
"I like pin-up girls. I'm more of a boy than a girl. I'm not a lesbian, though - not before a sambuca anyway. "
"I don't ever want to do anything mediocre. I hear the music in the charts and I don't mean to be rude, but those people have no soul. Learning from music is like eating a meal - you have to pace yourself. You can't take everything from it all at once. I want to be different, definitely. I'm not a one trick pony. I'm at least a five-trick pony."

  1. The first and last quotes, my eyes watered...what a voice she had, and one that was much needed in the talentless hole that is the music industry. I'm so, so sad about this.

Also, thank you for such a lovely post. I am glad to see someone actually shining light on her talent rather than her demons.

  2. I don't want to sound cold but I'm afraid I said, I don't think she'll ever hit 30, some years now. And I was very sorry to think that because she really was a "5 trick pony" (at least) but obviously a tragic and tortured one.
I love her music. I just wish she had time to make more.

  3. May she rest in a peace she may not have found on earth.

  4. She really was very beautiful girl, wasn't she? Her story is so sad. I was very impressed by her music too.

  5. Some people feel that they have to live the lifestyle of a raucous rock star. Too bad, but not the best of British I am afraid. It was all in her hands.

  6. Such a tragic! Such talented singer, song writer and musician! She was obviously a very trouble soul, lotsa sadness and could not find her way to see the light. May Amy Winehouse rest in peace and free from misery.

  7. She was "dead man walking" for years, little more than a corps whose soul had long ago fled her. I hope she's finally found some peace.

  8. (Hi, dear Gaia- going to reply to your LOVELY email right after dinner. You may post my Amy Winehouse comment if you would like to.)

What a pity, though not entirely unexpected. I loved Amy Winehouse's voice, lyrics, and neo-Motown delivery.

Getting sober/clean is not usually difficult. Staying sober/clean is the challenge.

  12. I was saddened but not surprised to hear of her death. It was only a matter of time. And I'm tired of hearing of gifted young people destroying themselves with drugs, legally prescribed or illegal. It seems that friends, family and colleagues did what they could to get her help, but she didn't want it. She was an adult and it was all in her hands. It's a tragedy that her fans will never know how her talent would have developed.
