Book

I should better grab something for the flights as I doubt I can talk the Blond into giving me his iPad. Any recommendations?

Music
Liam Finn

Perfume
Space NK are clearancing out the Honore des Pres line, so last month I picked a bottle of Sexy Angelic for the princely sum of $36.25. It has no staying power and I would have never bought it at full price, but 75% off? I'm spraying myself silly.

Makeup
A quick navy smoky eye. I think it's my signature look.

Frequently worn outfit / item
A linen scarf in bright orange and yellow my mom sent me.

Food
Give me the cheese and no one gets hurt.

Bane of my existence
Mosquito bites and my inability not to scratch them.

Joy
Watching old movies. TCM Channel had a tribute to Howard Keel this week. I forgot how much I love Kiss Me Kate.

Anticipation
Other than Paris?

Wish List
Good weather in Paris, a couple of bell jars and those Dior flats I showed you the other day. A bottle of Golconda wouldn't hurt, either. I've been craving it lately.

Random Thoughts
My best random thoughts get tweeted these days. There must be a good quip somewhere in this very statement, but then I'll have to tweet it first.

  1. Book recommendation: any of the Mapp & Lucia novels. There are several free at gutenberg.org and some on iBooks that you can have on your iPhone (or are you a blackberry girl? I don't remember)

    Great, not I want cheese..

  2. That should read "now" I want cheese. Some people dream about being locked in a bakery overnight. I want to be locked in Murray's.

  3. Enjoyed a flight reading 'A Visit from the Goon Squad.' It's quirky but absorbing. Since you are headed to Paris, you might try 'The Piano Shop on the Left Bank' to get you in the mood. Have a wonderful trip!

  4. Book
I need something to read for my flight too - I leave Sunday AM to Orlando (visiting the parents), and I'll be gone for at least two weeks. So sad to be missing FNO.

    Music
    A lot of Coltrane.

    Perfume
Liz Zorn's Leather Krem and all of my Tauer samples. Lonestar Memories may be my favorite so far. I was surprised that I liked Zeta as much as I did.

    Makeup
Lots of bronzer. I want a tan already - it's September, I have yet to have one.

    Frequently worn outfit / item
American Apparel v-necks and a miniskirt.

    Food
    Ippudo, Ippudo, and more Ippudo.

    Bane of my existence
Too many to list, but right now? My insomnia and my need to pack.

    Joy
Spending time with the boy, my new TheBalm Muppets palette, my growing perfume collection.

    Anticipation
The next three days, and being able to have my mom's cooking again. Having the time away to recoup and get things together.

    Wish List
A couple of Hakuhodo brushes, the Urban Decay Book of Shadows Vol.4, Le Metier Spicy eyeshadow, the Laura Mercier blending brush that looked like a skunk, BANDIT, an Ayala Moriel sampler, new jeans, a pedicure. I could probably keep going...

  5. Maybe this is a silly question to ask a perfumista but have you read "Perfume: The story of a murderer" by Patrick Sueskind? Great book and it's set in Paris! If you like old movies: I'm planning to read F. Scott Fitzgerald's last novel "The last Tycoon". It's unfinished but said to be really good. Have a great trip!

  6. Books:

Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Sex & Science, Mary Roach

The Louise Penny Inspector Gamache series, if you're into mysteries. They are EXCELLENT.

Room, Emma Donoghue: more lighthearted than I expected, and absorbing--perfect for a long flight.

    Have a wonderful trip!

  7. Oh you are coming to Paris!! Well, I think/hope you will be lucky: summer this year has been a total ugly rainy mess, but these last few days, the sun keeps shining and the weather is nice and warm.
Book recommendation: The Summer without Men by Siri hustvedt.
Bonne lecture et vivement que tu puisses profiter de Paris!

  9. Book: The Vices by Lawrence Douglas. High style, big family money, big family secrets.

    Song: "Kathleen" by Josh Ritter.

Food: smoked paprika. Putting it on everything except dessert! Wonderful on baked potatoes.

Wearing: a melon coloured polo in heavy cotton.

Bane: Fall allergy season. Benadryl is my best buddy right now.

Tiny, tiny envy: Friends going places like Seattle, Rio, and Paris.

    Fragrance: Ormonde Jayne Ta'if. Irresistable.

Dream: One shampoo to do it all. Oil control, fullness, and to eliminate little flaky things.

Traveling Mercies, Gaia (et M. Blond).

  12. I'm reading Fifth Ave, 5 A.M., about the making of Breakfast at Tiffany's. Here's the NYT review. It's a light, quick read. Have fun in Paris!
