By Terry Trafalgar Red (5) Terrybly Nail Laque

It doesn't get any redder than By Terry Trafalgar Red (5) Terrybly nail lacque. This is a bright statement red that will be noticed. Trafalgar Red leans warm, though not quite tomato-ish (but close). The finish is creamy and glossy for a classic appearance.

I love the wide and full brush of By Terry polishes. I find that while there is some cleanup to do afterwards, brushes like this guarantee a smooth and streak-free application. The formula is excellent and as long as I'm careful not to abuse my nails, it takes 4-5 days to see tip wear.

Color-wise, Essie Well Red is a pinker and thinner version (requires 3 coats to get a similar intensity). Deborah Lippmann's My Funny Valentine is nearly identical. In some lights the Lippmann polish appears to have more red (while the By Terry one can appear just a bit warmer), but as you can see, one needs to actively search for the difference. Trafalger Red Terrybly has a glossier finish, though, and a bit more shine, but even that is marginal in most light conditions.

By Terry Trafalgar Red (5) Terrybly Nail Laque ($30) is available at Barneys, Space NK and Bigelow.

  1. I love red polishes, and this one is very cute. It reminds me a little bit of Cajun Shrimp by OPI.
