Sue Devitt Babylon Balanced Matte Lipstick

The formula of Sue Devitt's Balanced Matte Lipstick is one of very few matte lipsticks that I can wear. It probably has something to do with the fact that Sue Devitt lipsticks are pretty rich in emollient ingredients that give a velvet non-glossy finish but aren't drying. While this is not exactly an absolute matte lipstick, the look is more natural, not to mention kinder to my face. I still use a good lip balm before applying it, to make sure the lipsticks fares well long term, but if you're younger and/or have no issues with dry lips, you may be able to skip it.

 Ingredients (via beauty.com):
Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed) Oil (Castor), Glyceryl Triacetyl Hydroxystearate, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla Cera) Wax (Candelilla), Oleyl Alcohol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Ozokerite, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Silica, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Olive), C12 15 Alkyl Ethylhexanoate, Lanolin, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax (Carnauba), Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil (Apricot), Fragrance, Propylparaben, Tribehenin, Sorbitan Isostearate, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, May Contain (+/-):, Mica, Iron Oxides, Red 6, Red 6 Lake, Red 7 Lake, Red 21 Lake (CI 45380), Red 21 Lake (CI 45380), Red 22 Lake (CI 45380), Red 27 Lake (CI 45410), Red 28 (CI 45410), Red 33 (CI 17200), Orange 5, Yellow 5 Aluminum Lake, Yellow 6 Aluminum Lake (CI 15985), Yellow 10 Aluminum Lake (CI 47005), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Manganese Violet, Carmine (CI 75470), Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163)
Babylon is described by Sue Devitt as a "bright coral pink", and I cannot argue with that. I hoped that it will pull more pink, but since this is a high coverage formula, what you see in the swatch is what you get. Babylon is a summer color for me and I tend to doctor it a bit with a dark pink gloss, but there's no denying that the color is lovely and the formula is good.

Sue Devitt Babylon Balanced Matte Lipstick ($20) is available at Barneys and other select department stores, suedevittbeauty.com and beauty.com. The product was sent for my consideration and review by the company's PR.
