Neil Armstrong (1930-2012)

"Oh! oh! if this, then, be the world, say I,
I'll keep to my home in the clear blue sky;
Still to dwell in my planet I crave as a boon,
For the earth ne'er will do for the Man in the Moon."
The Man in the Moon, by C. Sloman. London, 1848

Neil Armstrong quotes:
"Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand."
"It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small."

  1. Thank you for those wonderful quotes. I am quite sad about Mr. Armstrong's death. However, he had a great life (at least what we, the general public, know about it) and was truly an inspiration to me when I was growing up, as well as to my brothers and many friends. I watched the moon landing with my Dad, who worked in the space program. It was awesome.

  2. I was flying home from France when the pilot made the astounding announcement that the first man had walked on the moon. The stewardesses (yes, we called them stewardesses back then) broke out complimentary champagne and it became one big flying party as passengers were walking up and down the aisles looking for Americans to congratulate. During that adventurous and optimistic era, not even the sky was the limit. It was an incredible time; filled with so much hope for the future. We knew the stars were within out grasp thanks to explorers like Neil Armstrong.
