Jean Patou- Patou Pour Homme

Written by the husband, AKA The Blond:

Jean Patou Pour Homme is for me the essence of comfort, calm and understated elegance. This 1980 classic is a leather fougere that combines lavender, herbs, wood and leather in a quiet composition that stays close to the skin and lasts for a very long time. The opening is a bit peppery and herbal but settles down pretty quickly into a base than on my skin is lavender and leather-centric. This is not the aggressive leather of Tom Ford Tuscan Leather or Kenize Ten, but a soft beautiful one.

My mental image for this one is of Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in their leather upholstered convertible driving through the hills of southern France. Just sit, relax and take in the view and the scents. Why do I see an Italy / French Riviera trip in our future, Dear?

While it is named “for Men” and will be classified as masculine, it would work beautifully for women who like leather as well. Lavender and Hermes bag anyone? Sadly, Patou Pour Homme and its brother, the “Prive” version form 1994, are both discontinued and are extremely hard to find, so keep an eye open in yard sales and antique stores as prices on eBay are a bit insane.

Official notes (according to Basenotes):
Top Notes: Hot Pepper, Lavender, Tarragon, Black Pepper, Bergamot, Galbanum
Middle Notes: Bourbon Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli, Clary Sage
Base Notes: Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Mysore, Cistus Labdanum

Nice review, Blond, Mr. Blond. I completely agree with your evaluation. A former companion of mine wore this, and for that, I kept him around somewhat longer than I should have!
