Chanel- Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base

Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base is a cream bronzer-- a makeup category that isn't too saturated at the moment (the only other cream bronzer I own is the one from Hourglass, which have a thicker and creamier texture), probably because application takes a bit of work. Soleil Tan de Chanel needs to be blended either over foundation or even into it for a more subtle result, because it really is a golden tan kind of color, with emphasis on golden, which can end up orange if not blended carefully.

The texture and finish of Soleil Tan de Chanel are quite interesting. It feels almost waxy to the touch but when applied you realize that it's actually whipped (whipped butter, more than whipped cream); the product has no greasiness or shine and the finish is matte. This is why on some skin tones Soleil Tan de Chanel may be used for contouring. However, I suspect that for many others it is far too warm and bright to even be considered for the task. In my opinion, Soleil Tan de Chanel requires a mindful application (all bronzers do, actually) but the reward of a seamless golden touch that melds with the skin is worth it.

As far as application goes, if you're a die-hard finger user you can get away with it, but I prefer dense kabuki brushes or round and firm blush brushes. The hair of the brush shouldn't be too long and fluffy (it'll get messy), and brush that isn't dense enough will not buff the bronzer onto the skin well-- you want the natural finish that doesn't just sit on top of the face. Hakuhodo 210, Hakuhodo G543, MAC 182, NARs bronzer brush-- they all work well.

Bottom Line: nice to have.

  1. I must say, this is one of my favorite cream bronzers. I agree it can turn orange if it isn't enough blended. Yet, I can use it for a sligh contour, that will be set with powder later. I've tried Hourglass too, but somehow my skin prefers this one.

  2. I love the texture and feel of this stuff but it's not for my pale complexion...even when blended. I need one just a little lighter...or less bronze. BUT it's gorgeous when it does work and in my opinion looks much more natural than any of the powder bronzers.
