Bobbi Brown Velvet Plum Long-Wear Cream Shadow

Here's a perennial favorite: Bobbi Brown Velvet Plum Long-Wear Cream Shadow is part of the permanent collection and has been so for quite a while, which is a good thing, because it's one of the best colors in the range.  I'm a fan of Bobbi Brown's cream eye shadows (I'm on my second pot of Malted), because they really deliver on the longevity promise, and being so easy to use that they're practically fool proof. This is Bobbi Brown at her best, and what I hope the brand would eventually return to.

The name "Velvet Plum" shouldn't scare away those who don't do purple. It's not really plummy despite some of the particles (see the closeup photo). The color is very complex and shifts between bronze and taupe, depending on the light source and its direction. The shimmer particles are visible, though, which is my only issue with this otherwise great eye shadow. It's not as shiny as Chanel Illusion d'Ombre, and the texture is easier to work with, but the shimmer is still very much there.

Bobbi Brown Velvet Plum Long-Wear Cream Shadow ($25) is available at the counters and from bobbibrowncosmetics.com.

  1. How do you like to wear it? As a base, with other cream/powder eyeshadows, or??

    1. I mostly do a lazy smoky eye with it, using a MAC 217 brush and a tiny smudge brush (Paula Dorf). But it's also a good base if I decide to add a second darker color in the outer V. Basically, every Lisa Eldridge tutorial where she uses a cream eye shadow works with this one.

  2. I've had this since the release because it's such a great, non-boring neutral (always what I look for), and it's still as creamy as ever. It's really a wonderful shade.

  3. I find that the Bobbi Brown website does an awful job of describing the colors on all their products ;)
