Tom Ford Beauty- Love Lust 01 Cheek Color

I spent quite a bit of time at the Tom Ford counter ever since the brand launched. It's no secret that I've been a bit ambivalent about Tom Ford himself, the concept of the makeup line, the price point (considering these are glorified Estee Lauder products), and the choice provocative imagery and names. So I played with the makeup and brushes, and then played some more. I tried some items again and again, compared stuff, raised an eye brow here and there, and took some notes. The result: I bought this blush, Tom Ford Love Lust 01 Cheek Color. And I plan to get a couple of more.

Love Lust is a warm golden-pink shade, but this description hardly does justice to the color and the way it interacts with the skin. The texture of Tom Ford blushes is beyond superb, the finely milled powder is ultra delicate and soft, the shimmer is of the million dollar quality and as delicate as they come, and the result is very flattering.

Tom Ford Cheek Color blushes look very intense in their pans and one can definitely build up the pigment as desired. My preference is for a light application with a Hakuhodo Yachiyo brush, and that's what you see in the swatches (both were taken outside under an afternoon sunlight, with the light coming from different directions).

I've been getting quite a few emails from readers about ingredient sensitivity. I can't be much of a help in this regard because most makeup products don't affect my skin (well, other than a primer that made the skin on my fingers go numb for a couple of hours). But as you can see, Tom Ford blushes contain stuff like talc, silicone and bismuth, so make sure you know what triggers your skin.

You can see more swatches of Tom Ford's blushes, including heavy application, on KarlaSugar's site.

Bottom Line: the one must-have Tom Ford item.

Tom Ford Cheek Color  ($55) is available from Saks, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

  1. That looks gorgeous! I had written off Tom Ford until I recently had the chance to swatch it in person. I immediately added Wicked and Burnished Amber quad to my wish list. Looks like I need to add Love Lust as well.

  2. This is such a beautiful colour and I'm incredibly appreciative of the light hand with the colour swatch. Seeing it as it would apply has piqued my interest far more than I imagine a heavy swatch would have.

I haven't taken the plunge yet with the expanded collection. Today has been a very bad day so far, so I might just sidle over the Selfridges website now!

  3. I'm glad to hear that you tried it even though you were ambivalent. I have pretty much the same attitude as you toward the brand (who charges $55 for a blush?!). But it looks like it could be a good investment. And a good blush can really pull together a look. Thanks!

  6. I have Love Lust and Frantic Pink and am always amazed by these beautiful, complex, softly luminous blushers every time I open the compacts. And, that "million dollar" delicate shimmer you mentioned is what gives these a lit-from-within glow that makes them worth the hefty price tag as far as I'm concerned. Because these are so richly pigmented, I suggest applying them with a light hand until you know how much color you need or want. These blushers can easily take you from soft and natural daytime looks to dramatic and high fashion evening look. It's just a matter of how much of this ultra rich pigment you apply. For every day wear, my personal preference is to use a fan brush with these. I agree with you, Rola. These won't be my last TF blushers. They're really amazing.

  7. I checked this out last week in Harvey Nichols here and it really seems worth every penny!
I loved how soft the formula is and not so much powdery as NARS or MAC blushes. And this color is a really gorgeous one!
