Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil- Soft Brunette

Talk about good timing. I was in the midst of my last eyebrow obsession when the good people of Hourglass Cosmetics sent me their  eyebrow pencil for review.  Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil has a great design. An angled spoolie brush on one side (excellent, by the way, thicker and softer than other similar brushes I have around here), and a finely shaped color tip on the other. The pencil part allows for precision- drawing fine hairs if you only use the point, or you can go wider to fill larger areas and build up the volume (textured brows are very much on trend this season).

The texture of this Hourglass  pencil is different than other similar products I have. It glides on waxy but actually has a natural-looking powdery finish which I love-- I tend to prefer powder products for filling in brows, though I admit the newer generation of brow pencils are miles ahead of their predecessors. The color adheres to skin and hair and has great longevity.

The one issue here is the limited color range. Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil comes in three shades: Blonde, Soft Brunette, and Dark Brunette. I played with Dark Brunette at the counter and found that it's a bit too obvious and harsh on me. Soft Brunette is more ashy and looks good when filling existing brows. Luckily, I have no bald spots, so the product integrates well with my brows. However, I do need some extra help extending my naturally short brows. It's only a few millimeters but Soft Brunette is too light and too obvious on bare skin.

Bottom Line: great product, more shades will make it even better.

Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil ($32) is available from select department stores and at Sephora. The product reviewed here was sent for consideration free of charge by the company.
