Bantam Tileworks- Beauty For The Home

The Blond and I have been spending our weekends lately driving all over the Tri-State area searching for interesting vintage, antique and artisan stores. We have a thing for mid-century modern art and furniture, but also anything handmade and unusual. The cats seem to favor Danish Modern style.

A few weeks ago we found ourselves in Litchfield County, Connecticut. A beautiful area, not very vegetarian-friendly, though. Finding a decent lunch was quite a challenge. What we did find was Bantam Tileworks. a ceramic tile studio. The location is an old (renovated) factory that also houses an Asian antique store (that's why we got there in the first place), the showroom is beautiful and part of the studio itself, which is open to visitors. Everything is handcrafted and  made on the premises. You can watch the process and look at the display of their current colored tiles and accessories like coasters (the set you see above), tiled tables and checkers boards.

The colors and shapes of the tiles are beautiful and very unusual. They do backsplashes and mosaics and I've already started to plan several home improvement projects, from new tiles around the fireplace to a brand new kitchen ( a girl can dream).

The studio is located on 931 Bantam Road (Route 202), Bantam, Connecticut and is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
