Avalon Organics Olive/Grape Seed Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

About a decade ago I used to buy the lavender shampoo and conditioner by Avalon Organics at Whole Foods. I loved everything about them-- both scent and their performance, and recommended Avalon Organics to anyone who was pretending to listen. I was thinking of them recently, and decided to try the Organics Olive/Grape Seed Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner, feeling certain these were a sure thing.

Avalon Organics Olive/Grape Seed products are completely fragrance free. It's perfect for those who are sensitive to perfume in their personal care products, or if you prefer to scent yourself with a dedicated hair mist. For me and my massive amount of hair, fragrant hair products are preferable. I find that these shampoo and conditioner make my hair smell kind of wet doggish. It's not bad or anything, just too granola for me. Using a fragrant hair oil after washing is a quick and easy solution, though.

I do like the Avalon Organics Olive/Grape Seed Moisturizing Shampoo. It cleans efficiently, removes all remnants of styling products. It's also a good detangler, which I appreciate greatly.  Had it smelled betterI'd say that this shampoo is pretty close to perfect. My issue is with the conditioner. I'll mention the fact that apparently I'm slightly allergic to something there and got a mild reaction along my hairline as well as several clogged pores. But even if I weren't sensitive to the product, I'm testing and reporting the performance, and I find it lacking. While Avalon Organics Olive/Grape Seed Moisturizing Conditioner looks and feels like a thick and rich cream, it doesn't nourish all that well. My hair never got that pampered look and feel and it seems that most of the conditioner just went down the drain without making any difference.

Bottom Line: good intentions, just not for me.

Avalon Organics Olive/Grape Seed Moisturizing Shampoo ($9.95) & Conditioner ($9.95) are available from drugstore.com.
