Makeup Look: FotD With NARS Steven Klein Collection

I'm getting a head start on my biggest New Year resolution: posting at least one makeup look a week. To say that I don't have the skill or the right equipment is an understatement, though both issues will get rectified eventually.  I'm determined to figure it out and get more comfortable in front of the camera, no matter how cringe-worthy the whole process feels like right now.

This look is almost all NARS, with a focus on the three new items I just reviewed. Here's the breakdown:

Face:
Estee Lauder New Dimension Shape+Fill Serum (as sort of a primer)
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30 in St. Moritz
Serge Lutens compact foundation in B40 used as a concealer
NARS Light Reflecting Loose Powder

Eyes:
NARS eye primer
MAC Blanc Type eye shadow all over the lid
NARS Never Too Late eye shadow on the lid and to create a round shape
NARS Stud patted in the middle of the lid
NARS Stylo black eyeliner
Lancome Grandiose mascara
(brushes used: Hakuhodo S121 G and S133)

Cheeks:
Nars Almeria blush from last year's holiday collection

Lips:
NARS Special Force lip gloss
LMdB Dualistic lip liner in Rose.

Brows: forgot to do anything. Earrings: vintage. Shirt: J Crew adorned with cat hair.

  2. I really like your resolution for NY! I always wished to see some makeup looks in your reviews because we seem to be picking the same makeup and as a dark brunette I am naturally curious to see how something looks on on another brunette :) Taking pictures of makeup on is very difficult, but you did it well. I hope you will not decide for any extreme editing because when skin color and texture are absolutely even, everything looks a bit different than on a normal human face with some discolorations here and there. Now lighting and clarity are perfect.

    1. I promise no extreme editing. I don't look like a model or like a 21 year old, and if I'm doing it, the whole point is to show my real face, blemishes and all. I do edit the lighting/brightness at the moment, because I'm trying to rely on natural light and my dressing room is not exactly a solarium. Other than that, I promise my dark circles will always be on display.

  3. I am SO glad you are doing this. You are my only "must read" daily blog. Which is kinda funny for next year I will be 70. But it is not just what you do in your blog - it has to do with your your wonderful soul and personality. I really so enjoy your blog and I am very glad that your will put in your photos. Thank you.

  4. You look great!! Also, you must have realised from early on that you've got a set of eyelids that go to wow pretty quick with a swipe of eyeshadow.

    1. Yes, Frances. I consider my lid space the consolation prize for the sunken eyes. It makes playing with eye shadow placement highly enjoyable (and makes me use up a lot more eyeliner than the average person).

  5. Beautiful! And this is a great idea. I love seeing the eyeshadow actually on the lids. And those earrings are wonderful!

  6. Thank you very much for making this bold resolution. I really enjoy your blog and often refer to your past posts before making purchase decisions.
It is terrific to see what effects you achieve with the product - and brushes. I am only just realising ( thanks to you) the difference the right (quality) brush can make to the outcomes.

    1. Thank you so much, Gilli. Quality brushes are wonderfully satisfying. The application itself, the way they feel in my hand, and of course, the results. I love sharing this geeky passion of mine.

    1. Thanks, Ingrid. I guess there's a reason that my red lip color drawer tends to overflow.

  8. Your new FOTD is so exciting. I'm a professional photographer's daughter, so I've been photographed during almost every stage, activity, or expression throughout my younger years. I hope you're able to get used to it after a while. I think you have one of those faces that really shows makeup beautifully. I loved the NARS Steven Klein collection and ordered the Dual Intensity Blush in Vengeful, Single Eye Shadow in Stud, Killer Shine Lipstick in Redemption, and Nail Polish in Black Fire. They are to arrive at my door this coming Saturday. Your blog is my daily "must read" and this new feature will make it much more enjoyable. I hardly will buy a new perfume without checking your opinion. Thanks for keeping up the great work.

    1. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Yes, I do have a skin tone and face structure that can take quite a bit of color. It's not always what I wish for, but there's a certain advantage here for a beauty blogger. I'm having fun right now planning future looks.

  10. Thank you! It's so helpful to see the makeup "in action," so to speak. And you look just lovely. I especially enjoy the first photo, where your eyes are sparkling! So glad you're adding FOTDs to your repertoire...though every post from you is a delight.

  13. Very helpful post; glad you mentioned the Estee Lauder Shape + Fill. You might laugh, but at a recent trip to the counter, I felt too shy to ask what the samples were that the brisk SA told me she was putting in the bag with my lipstick. I dug in when back in the mall, and thought, "oh, Shape + Fill; what is that for?"
