FotD- A Highly Highlighted Look

This was my look for a Sunday outing to Cold Spring, NY. It was a cold(ish) day but spring is already in the air and I wanted some brightness and a little shine. I was also inspired by a makeup adventure from the previous day, when I allowed my best friend a free reign over my face. That's a story that may become a separate post. For now, we're discussing this kind of shiny makeup look.

Face
Rouge Bunny Rouge Original Genesis Primer.
YSL Touche Eclat foundation (new formula) in B50 Honey. Yes, I know I owe you a gazillion foundation reviews and comparisons. It will happen soon.
Smashbox 24 Hour Concealer in Light/Neutral. Another review in the works. It's an interesting product.
Laura Mercier Universal Powder for setting.

Eyes
Youngblood eye primer. It's a very good one, but requires a light hand and careful blending as it can be drying. It makes everything stick to it for 18 hours.
Benefit Shy Beam used under the eyes for brightening and even a slight color correcting. It's much better than I anticipated.
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder under the eyes. You can't beat a classic.
Two colors from Studio 10 i-Definer palette (review soon): a light matte highlighter under the brow, a matte gray/taupe in the crease.
On the lids I used two eye shadows from a new-to-me indie American brand Strobe Cosmetics (another future post), the colors are Room 64 and Strongman:

Youngblood Marron eyeliner pen (press sample), which has started to rapidly dry out by the third and fourth use. Too bad, because I loved the shape and size of the tip. I will post a comprehensive Youngblood review soon,
Clinique High Impact mascara. A staple for at least a dozen years. I always always always have a fresh tube with me.

Brows
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Medium Brown. Very lightly used, mostly to put the tail end on eual tems with everything else.  A brow post is in the making.

Cheeks
Le Metier de Beaute blush in Echo. If I'm ever going to hit pan again on a blush, this would be it.
Anastasia Beverly Hills single highlighter in Starlight. Another upcoming post will discuss the mystery of Anastasia's highlighters. If only I could make the cats earn their keep as my assistants.

Lips
Essence Cosmetics lip liner in Soft Berry 05. I used it to line and fill the lips, so I could retain some color after lunch even before reapplying my lip gloss. It's a drugstore brand that I picked on a whim at Ulta. Best $1.99 I've spent in a while.
Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in Love Drunk.

Other Stuff
Hermes Scarf from around eight years ago.
SotD Parfums MDCI Nuit Andalous. The tuberose is strong with this one.

  2. Love your FOTD posts. You look lovely and glowy. As a sixty something woman I'm not sure I could pull it off but you look beautiful!

    1. This might be too late to be seen by you, Colleen, but I'll bet you absolutely can pull off highlighters. I'm 60, and glow all day, every day! Besides, when done right, no one can tell, you'll just be beautiful.

    2. I do think older women can use highlighters. There's always a part of the face that you want to emphasize with glow. It's a matter of choosing the finest textures, and probably going with creams or liquids.

  3. I just love how you do your eye makeup. I was wondering if you have tried Serge Luten's Santal de Mysore Cloche and, if so, what do you think? Real sandalwood is my perdition.

    1. Santal de Mysore is beautiful. I think it's changed a couple of times over the years because of the restrictions on the use of real Mysore sandalwood, but it's still very impressive. I seem to recall it smelled even better on my husband, and he layered it with a touch of Arabie, which was stunning.

  4. Another WOW look for you. The third photograph is especially striking & beautiful. And the scarf's colors are perfect with the make-up look. GOOD JOB (again).

  5. Fantastic look - especially like the eye shadows. And am looking forward to all the reviews, but especially for the foundations and the Smashbox concealer.
Gloriously vibrant, energizing colors in the scarf - love it!

    1. Thank you. The lip color was such an afterthought, which often turns out to be the very best thing.

  7. "The tuberose is strong...." way funny!!!
This is the second time one of your posts has helped me use all the brown/taupe eye shadows languishing in my palettes. 1. Matt brown for my eyebrows. 2. Shimmery brown blended with pink on my lids. Shimmery is too stagey for me in any other color, and twice I tried a satin or matt brown/taupe look and had a co-worker ask if I was not feeling well.

    1. Kathy, sometimes a hint of pink is the perfect cure for a tired looking brown. I'm glad my post helped inspire you!

  9. Love your look! the lips, in particular, look lovely. I have to look for that Essence lipliner you use; Essence products are very popular in Spain, I have some of their gel eyerliners and they are very good quality for the price.

    1. I agree about the value/price of Essence. I only have two of their lip liners, but will have to get a couple more.
