Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Eye shadows & Lipstick- Insolent Ivory, Brash Bronze, Defiant Coral

I took advantage of an excellent GWP event at Neiman Marcus. I needed a couple of Estee Lauder skincare items (a new bottle of Advanced Night Repair serum and the companion sheet masks which I will review soon). Shipping was free, so I split my order in two and got two full size eye shadows in different colors (the mini lipstick was the same in both). There was also an incredibly generous variety of Re-Nutriv products in full and deluxe sizes, and lash primers. But we're here to talk about the shiny stuff.

I'm already a huge fan of Lauder's Pure Color Envy series. Both the eye shadows and the lipstick are excellent and deserve a lot more attention than they tend to get (no, Kendall Jenner hype is not the answer). In any case, the eye shadows I got in Insolent Ivory (28 Velvet finish, meaning a matte basic cream) and Brash Bronze (01, Luminous finish, a truly stunning metallic bronze, more complex on the lid than in the pan) go beautifully together (and with my other Lauder singles), and the adorable mini lipstick in Defiant coral is that much-needed kiss of sunshine. It's a classic, almost retro red coral, wears beautifully and lasts through a snack or a tea break.

Bottom Line: worth an individual purchase.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Eye shadows  in Insolent Ivory &, Brash Bronze ($25 each) and Defiant Coral ($30 for the full size. What you see here is a mini) are available at the counters and from esteelauder.com.

  1. I'm dying to find out what you think about the ANR sheet masks. I'm tiptoeing into Korean skin care but haven't tried any sheet masks. The ANR is so good that I'm tempted to try them--but they're so pricey, argh!

    1. I love them so far, but the price drives me crazy, compared to some excellent Korean masks. I'll write a detailed post soon and offer an alternative.

    1. I know, right? Lauder has come a very long way since the yenta makeup of the 70s. It's truly in my top of the top brands.

  3. Hubby gave me a set of the lipsticks for Christmas. Picked it out on his own too. Easily the most surprising gift he got me. I like the lipsticks a lot. There were four in the set and the colors are very wearable, not too dry, and last reasonably well. I've always liked Estée Lauder.

    1. I'm impressed! In twenty two plus years together, the one thing the husband had never bought me is lipstick.

  4. That lipstick is beautiful, and though the bronze would not work for my coloring, the ivory looks very useful. I am an EL fan anyway. However, I would like to note that after 30 years at customer service desk and as receptionist, the words "insolent" and "brash" don't have a lot of marketing appeal for me. I wonder if there is something else those words mean to the younger generation that is not as coarse as they sound to me!

    1. I know what you mean, Kathy. Add "audacious " to this list (and I don't like the lipsticks, anyway).

  5. That lipstick is adorable!!

I haven't tried their eyeshadows but I own one of the lipsticks and I love it. Hope to add more members to the family!

    1. They're an excellent value/price ratio. Some of the lipsticks rival Tom Ford.

  6. I have that lipstick. While the color is really beautiful, I'm on the fence about the formulation. It does feel buttery and smooth when I apply, but after an hour or so it settles into my lip lines, even though I tried exfoliating my lip regularly. It's weird when I compare it to my other lipstick, the Nars Audacious. The Nars one has much drier texture, yet it never settles into my lip lines.

    1. See, I cannot wear NARS lipsticks, including Audacious. The dry my lips, emphasizing lines, and worst of all, they make an old scar open and bleed. Go figure.
