Joan Fontaine (1917- 2013)

Joan Fontaine quotes:
"My family was a combination of the critical and perfectionist—and that's tough."

"It would have been appalling to know I had to have breakfast with any one of those husbands for the rest of my life! "

"The Oscar can be a jinx, bringing with it envy, hatred, and ill wishes--uneasy is the winner."
/
"I always wanted to mingle with older people. I wanted to learn from them. You see, I don't believe that when you lose your youth, you lose everything."

"It seems there's just no room left for elegance in this paper-plate, blue-jean world. And I, for one, think it's a shame."

  2. Love your selection of photos and quotes - a wonderful tribute that makes me want to see the films that Anonymous is recommending. That Life photo sets a beautiful example of graceful transition from glorious youth to intriguing maturity. nozknoz

  4. When I was a teenager in the 1950s, a friend asked me who my favorite movie star was. Hers was Mona Freeman. Mine was Joan Fontaine. Some 60 years later, Joan is still my favorite. She passed away 12/15/2013.
Joan had beauty and talent, achieved fame and fortune and lived to be 96. Perhaps there is no need to mourn - we should celebrate her life and thank her for a great body of work that she leaves behind. RIP Joan!
Good-bye Mrs. de Winter, now that you have left us, will you go to Manderley again?
