Body Powders- A Summer Staple

Body powders are a summer staple for me, despite my perpetual dry skin. While I don't use them on my limbs, except sometimes behind the knees, body powders are one of those little secrets that create comfort under the clothes. I also use them during other times of the year for travel: I find that a light dusting does wanders for the way I feel during a plane ride or a long road trip.  My demands are simple: fine texture that feels good on skin, and a non intrusive scent that goes away quickly. Here's a quick overview of the body powders I've been using lately:

Dr.Hauschka Body Silk Powder
It must be me. Dr.Hauschka products have a wonderful reputation and devoted followers who swear by them, but I have yet to find a single item in the line that I truly love. The Body Silk Powder should have been one due to the wonderful natural ingredient list and the mild fragrance, but the texture is grainy and feels almost abrasive on my skin. It's too coarse and not comfortable-- the exact opposite of what I need. $34.95 on dermstore.com.

Lush Vanilla Puff Dusting Powder
Body powders are my favorite thing to buy from Lush. I'm never without a backup of their Silky Underwear powder or T For Toes, and even though I dislike the current packaging (a regular plastic bottle without a sifter) I keep buying and using them. Vanilla Puff has an excellent texture that absorbs well and feels very soft. I love it, but the strong vanilla scent makes its use quite limited: either before bed and/or with a similar vanilla gourmand perfume. The fragrance lingers for about an hour. $6.95, lushusa.com.

Roberts Borotalco Body Powder
Is this simply an Italian baby powder? Perhaps. It's also my absolute favorite in this category.  A delicate floral scent that goes away fairly quickly and doesn't interfere with perfume, and the finest texture imaginable. I can use it all over without worrying about over-drying my skin, yet the powder provides a very clean and lasting feeling. A good size (6.8oz, 200gr) plastic bottle with a functional sifter make it a good buy. There's also a travel size (100gr) and a 500gr option.  $16.50 at BigelowChemsists.com.

  3. I really like Estee Lauder's White Linen powder. It has some sparkle to it, but I just love the smell.

  4. I'm so glad you mentioned these! I've been using baby powder all the time for years (which people find weird), but I definitely want to try some of these!

  7. Oh thank you for this post! For some reason I'd completely forgoten about powder for summer. I used to love White Linen but I must admit that I loved regular lavender scented baby powder. I'll have a look since I think I may still have some. :)
