I don't exactly have an Avon Lady on speed dial. But a year or so ago several UK bloggers and vloggers were raving about Avon Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil and I got curious. However, a quick online search made me realize that these eyeliners either weren't available in the US, at least online. Then I got distracted by something shiny and forgot all about it until I was actually sent a press sample of Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil by Avon and got ridiculously excited about it. Or maybe not so ridiculously, because these little things are terrific.
The Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil I received is Intense Brown, a warm chocolaty kind of color that I like very much because it makes my brown eyes look... browner, I guess. Less flat-dark, to be more accurate. It requires a nice helping of black mascara for contrast, and the result looks effortless and very pretty. The pencil comes with an effective built-in chiseled sponge smudger that lets you blend the color during the very narrow smoking-window before the product sets.
The texture of Avon Supershock is exacrly what you'd expect from a pencil that boasts a 20% liquid gel content. It's smooth, goes on like a dream, but the real surprise is the pencil's longevity: endless on the lid and 3 full hours on my waterline without migrating or smudging! I didn't get to try the black color, so I can't comment or compare (some black liners are more prone to raccooning than lighter colors of the same line). But as far as I'm concerned, Intense Brown made me eager to give the other four ones a try.
Bottom Line: holds it own against top of the market pencils.
Avon Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil ($8) is available through Avon Ladies everywhere and from avon.com. The product for this review was sent by PR.
