Karl Lagerfeld, His Bathroom and Kitten In Harper's Bazaar

Harper's Bazaar brings us a day in the life of Karl Lagerfeld, complete with some very interesting photos of his bathroom and his cat, Choupette. Lagerfeld's bathroom is interesting for two main reasons: it's far more cluttered than I expected, and we get a glimpse of the fragrances he uses. Are we surprised to see Chanel is barely represented there?

I can spot two Serge Lutens perfumes in the export bottles, Shalimar in the limited edition black bottle from a couple of years ago, as well as a Shalimar Parfum Initial, something that may be Guerlain Cologne du 68, Balenciaga Paris, a Chanel bottle, a CDG and two Tom Ford private Blend fragrances.

Can you spot and identify anything else? Don't you just want to go and sniff Karl Lagerfeld's neck (or his kitten's?)?

  1. What a great photo. There is still some tightly-controlled order to that clutter. The bottles are probably alphabetized by brand. ;)

Choupette is too cute, but my cats would knock that bouquet over in less than a second.

  2. i read this article and surprisingly thought that karl was a little...may i say...messy?

i spotted some la mer toners in the front and i think a shiseido cream on the top shelf.

  3. My, he has a lot of stuff! The only things I want are the kitten and the bouquet.

  4. I am not sure what I would have imagined his bathroom to look like but he sure does have a lot of stuff out. It feels a bit kitchen like.

    Choupette is soooo cute!

  5. Is this an old photo or is Elvive the shampoo still called Elseve where he lives? I certainly wasn't expecting him to be using that cheap a shampoo. I can also spot Shu Uemura cleansing beauty oil a/o, Shu Uemura Phyto black firming cream, and four depsea facial mists from Shu Uemura again (rose, mint, chamomile and bergamont. I know a few more of the bottles but I can't remember their names now!

  6. what an overly interesting insight! i can spot some la mer toners besides the sink and a Sulwhasoo cream on the shelf (the orange one) ;)

  7. I would expect him to use a lot of products, but concealing the products out of plain sight would be a good idea. I would go nuts if that is my bathroom. The kitten is too cute for words:)

  8. Choupette is very sweet and I bet there are interesting scented wafts from that fuzzy fur.
When I had a kitten he often used to smell of Miss Dior, due to being cuddled just after I'd spritzed. (Couldn't help it. He liked having raspberries blown on his belly.)

  9. I'm not a clutter type even if there is some order to it. Like Rola, I'd go nuts in a bathroom like that. I found it very interesting that he has all kinds of grooming products around a sink, but there is no eye-level mirror. How odd! As for Choupette, I think it is unanimous. She is adorable.

  10. That article is amazing! It's so instructive that he makes time to read, daydream and watch Paris, and I love that he sleeps in a 17th century nightshirt and powders his hair.

Is that Chanel Allure beside the adorable, spoiled princess? ~~nozknoz

  11. Wow, that is seriously controlled clutter! If I had that many products out on my sink I would feel the need to purge most of it! My cats would treat the bottles like bowling pins and knock them all down in no time! Choupette is one nicely behaved kitten- my savages would have broken the vase and chewed on all of the roses! Interesting lack of Chanel!

    1. I love how you all can identify the products. It's fascinating to peek into such a famous icon's private stash. In response to your question, I would immediately scoop up that kitten and bury my face in her fur, but not Karl's neck. Much too leathery.

  12. The tall perfume bottle seems like Karl's last release Karleidoscope. Which are the CDGs?

@Odyssey - in Europe the name of l'oreals shampoo is Elseve. And next to it I spot few Kerastase shampoos

I feel like I voyeur though I have to admit that I am very curious about perfumes he use.

  13. La Mer tonic, and I believe the green bottle is something Shu Uemura. I love his flowers

  14. Only the kitten for me!

My routine: Shampoo, body wash, unscented antiperspirant, toothpaste, and maybe hair mousse, but not every day.

Fragrance, of course but not thousands!

I am "of the brotherhood," as we used to say here, but I like to keep things simple-ISH.

I do enjoy seeing how other people, wealthy, middling, and otherwise live, however.

  15. Dior Capture Totale The One serum?

  16. Also, looks like one of the SL is either Sa Majeste la Rose or Arabie. Given that he also has Shalimar Initial, it could be either one.

  17. This roundup has probably caught all the products except one. Guys, how could you have missed the famous La Prairie Platinum $1000 Cream to the left of that kitchen style sink?
Is it working for him? Might be worth asking. LOL

  18. I spotted some SOMATOLINE. It's a French product that kind of dilutes cellulite and fat when applied on skin.

  19. There is also a bottle of eau thermale d'Avene next to the Klorane spray. I can also see some Clinique toners on the right. And some synthol.

  21. Spotted Sulwhasoo Extra Refining cream.

  22. I don't believe that a man this wealthy and pre-occupied with himself would have a room in his home that looks like this. It looks like the back room of a crummy hair salon. This must be the servant's bathroom with all of Karl's cast off products.
