Nude Lips- Three Quick Options from Benefit, Buxom and Smashbox

Despite my general preference for red or plum lip colors I do find myself sporting natural/nude lip colors just as often. It might have something to do with my equal love for bold eye makeup. Here are three easy options in the mid-to-low price range that are simple, basic and very kind to my lips.

Above you see Benefit Cosmetics Full Finish Lipstick in Lady's Choice. Sephora's website describes Lady's Choice as a "naturally nude" and I won't argue with that. The reason this is a successful shade for me is that there's enough mauve or pink there to make sure the color doesn't look beige (the worst thing one can do to her lips in my opinion). I've always liked the formula of Benefit's lipsticks- it's very creamy, hydrating and comfortable to wear. $18 at Sephora.

The lip gloss bellow is Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Sugar. It's a sheer rosy pink color that looks clear on my lips but gives a healthy little boost of shine and fills the lips with moisture. The formula is enriched with vitamins A and E, has a very fine shimmer that catches the light and gives a slight plumping effect. I wouldn't have bought this particular shade, but I do like the Buxom Lip Plish formula and can't deny that a clear pink often comes handy. $19 at Sephora.

The last item we have here is clearest and sheerest of the bunch: Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Pixel. In the tube Pixel looks rosy, but there's actually very little pigment involved and none shows on my lips. I'm actually a fan of this light non-sticky Smashbox gloss (though I think the Limitless formula is better- lasts longer and has extra depth), and at some point owned and finished at least one in a deeper color. My favorite way to use this practically clear gloss is to mix with a more intense shade to customize my look. $18 on Smashbox.com.

All three products were a gift with purchase from various sources.

  1. Lady's Choice's a really nice nude. I like BUXOM's lip glosses for their minty tingle.

  2. I never knew Benefit lipsticks were so nice. I will pop into Sephora and check them out. This shade looks quite pretty. I have been using Estée Lauder lippies for so long, I think I forgot about other brands.
