Lorac Primers: AquaPrime, Neutralizer, Behind The Scenes Eye Primer

Regular readers know that I'm a devoted user of makeup primers. I don't see a way around it: If you want your makeup to last and retain its vibrancy, finish, and texture, you need to put a barrier between it and your skin. I rotate between several primers on a regular basis and always happy to add more to my list of favorites. Lorac makes some unique products for face prep and I've been testing them for many months now , trying to figure out the best way to use each one. Let's have a look:

Lorac Behind The Scenes Eye Shadow Primer ($21)-
Lorac's eye primer is extremely lightweight and smooth. It performs well, though it's no match for Paula Dorf, NARS or Kanebo Sensai. You only need a tiny drop, application is easy (ring finger works best), and the result is utterly transparent on the lid. I like the tube packaging and the way it dispenses the product.
Bottom Line: Quick and efficient.

Lorac aquaPRIME Oil-Free Makeup Primer ($32)-
Those who dislike silicone or suffer from sensitivity/allergy have significantly less options when it comes to face primers. Lorac aquaPRIME is free of oil, silicone, parabens, and fragrance. It's a clear product with a very runny texture that feels cooling and pleasant on my skin, but does little to extend the life of my makeup. It does help the skin retain moisture, at least in the first couple of hours, but I doubt this primer is more effective than pure aloe-vera gel.
Bottom Line: Meh.

Lorac Oil-Free Neutralizer ($30)-
This is an interesting product. It's meant to be used after your regular primer and help conceal and correct redness. It definitely does that, making skin tone more even. This extra step allows you to use a little less foundation/tinted moisturizer, which is always a good thing. Lorac recommends that you mix the neutralizer with another product: foundation, primer or moisturizer, and I agree. Not doing so may result in an ashy cast that also creates light reflection in photos (as I discovered the hard way). Contains silicone.
Bottom Line: Use responsibly.

Lorac AquaPrime, Neutralizer, and Behind The Scenes Eye Primer are available from Sephora, Ulta, and loraccosmetics.com.
