Best Face Forward- Natural Serum Oil

I promised to share another skincare secret, so here it is: Best Face Forward- Natural Serum Oil.

Last year I discovered the huge difference a serum oil can make for my face. Moisturizing, balancing, nourishing... it's all good and made me get over the Fear Of Oil that's so ingrained in us from our greasy youth. Then I was contacted by Anette from Shoofly Organic Farm who mixes her own serum oil made of the highest grade ingredients sourced from top Organic/Natural retailers, nothing from wholesale cosmetic suppliers or discounters. It's 100% natural, contains no fillers, preservatives or other things that have no skincare purpose--

Ingredients:  Argan Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Hazelnut Oil, Rosehips Oil, Borage Seed Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil, White Camellia Oil, Marula Oil, Oilive Oil Squalane, Vitamin E Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Rose Essential Oil, Helchrysum Essential Oil, Carrot Oil, Carrot Seed oil, Cranberry Seed Oil, Red Raspberry Seed Oil.

Nothing else.

Best Face Forward makes no claim about what the serum can do. It's just a balanced blend of good-for-you oils that you can use on your face as a serum, mix with other face products (primer, foundation) or with a body lotion. The oil is to be massaged into damp (or even wet) clean skin, avoiding the eye area. It can be used as a night treatment and also first thing in the morning (I prefer applying the serum every other night, but talk to me in January and I might be marinating in this stuff).

Now, to my own personal experience:

It's good.
The oil absorbs within minutes and doesn't leave greasy residue. It doesn't clog my pores (as a matter of fact, the more often I use it the clearer my skin gets). It's no secret that I test more products than is good for me. I find that when I need to re-balance and restore my skin this is the product that does it; I always regret if I skip more than three nights in a row. There are visible results the morning after I use the serum, even if I blogged half the night and woke up three times because of feline mayhem and critters using my toes as prey. I see more supple skin that looks well-rested, healthy and alive.

Bottom Line: I've been using Best Face Forward Natural Serum Oil for two months now and have promised myself that this will be part of my skincare routine for the foreseeable future and beyond.
Best Face Forward- Natural Serum Oil ($35 for 1 oz or $60 for 2oz) can be purchased online from http://www.tryonbodyworks.com/products.html . You can also buy a 5ml sample to test before committing to a full bottle. The product was sent to me for consideration and review. I've since repurchased.

  1. I love serums for my face, I too find my skin actually breaks out less when I use one. I have noticed, however, that my face doesn't like just a single ingredient oil.. Thanks for the review!

  3. My face really loves argan oil. I get slight rosacea on my cheekbones and I mist my face with water then pat on some argan oil.

Tee heeing at feline mayhem in the middle of the night (I guess this is the only time when they can throw off their *lovely assistant* roles!) (I love kittehs!)

  4. I love facial oils. I haven't been using one this summer due to the high heat and daily thunderstorms that have brought unbearable humidity to Atlanta, but I have one that was custom-made for me by Audra James that is just pure pleasure to use. I'm actually looking forward to the cooler months to use it again!

I'm going to check out this site though, due to the sourcing of the materials and the lovely results you've gotten. Thank you for the review!

  5. Facial oils deserve to be a lot more popular and widely used than they are. I've been using the Face Smoothing Serum from French organic brand Huiles & Baumes for over a year (a blend of coconut, sunflower, jojoba, macadamia, rose hip, blackcurrant seed, evening primrose, and other oils, plus daisy extract), and it's become one of my staples. I layer it morning and night between actives (AHAs, BHA, vitamin C, retinol, or whatever I'm testing) and a rich moisturiser (Avene Hydrance Optimale Riche), to seal it all in. While the results are never dramatic or spectacular, it never fails to bring my oily-but-dehydrated skin into balance.

  6. This is actually a very thoughtful and sophisticated blend of oils that most people should have no problem with-- non-clogging for the blemish-prone, calming for the sensitive, etc. I will definitely give it a go. And I will also anesthetize myself to remembering that I have two dozen bottles of face oil/serum already.
