YSL Cherry Black Effet Faux Cils Long-Wear Cream Eyeliner

The photos tell most of the story. Of course, I added this YSL Effet Faux Cils Long-Wear Cream Eyeliner cream eyeliner in Cherry Black (05) to my arsenal after the black one and the gorgeous Sea Black have become favorites, so it was a sure thing. Cherry Black is a complex black-red-purple with shimmer. The photos were taken in full afternoon sun under a skylight, so you can see every color nuance. When light is not as strong the eyeliner is mostly a black-based aubergine and the micro shimmer is even more subtle.

The formula of YSL Effet Faux Cils Long-Wear Cream Eyeliner is smooth, soft and foolproof. It works with any eyeliner brush type, from thin and fine to angled. And YSL was not kidding about the long-wear thing. Nothing short of a heavy duty eye makeup remover can make it budge.

Bottom Line: a winner.

YSL Effet Faux Cils Long-Wear Cream Eyeliner ($25) is available at the counters and from yslbeautyus.com.

  1. This looks great! I was looking for review/swatch of this because I wanted a gel liner with a red tone to it. Hadn't come across a good one so this is awesome. Thanks!

  2. Beautiful! I've been keen to try a similar shade by Bobbi Brown but now I think I'll have a look at the YSL ones instead! Thanks for the review x

  3. It reminds me of an old LE Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner that I have, Black Mauve maybe? They look pretty similar swatched, but this one seems warmer in its little pot.

  4. Hi Lulle,

I have both the BB liner and this one. Cherry Black is definitely warmer but not dramatically so. With my dark, warm green eyes, the extra bit of red in Cherry Black looks better. It has a warmer burgundy undertone as opposed to BB's cooler mauve one.

As much as I like BB's classic, I think the YSL is actually a bit better. It seems smoother with a bit more slip. Of course I only have the one YSL so I don't know if that holds true for the other colors.

  5. Wow, that is a gorgeous color! I'm going to look for that when I check out the touche eclat foundation...

  6. These are just so beautiful, and they're worth every cent. I have Sea Black and Black Bronze, and adore them both. I'd go ahead and grab the others but my supply of gel liners requires some "thinning" before I go and do that. So lovely. I just think YSL is my cherished brand of high end cosmetics. Thank you for the post! xoxo Beth in Pgh ;-)
